After much planning, I finally convinced my boyfriend to get on the Fall East Coast train. Let me tell you, after moving back home to Orange County after living in Boston for two years – I have been counting down the days until I got to go back. I’m so glad I did too, because I fell more in love with Boston then I already was, if you can believe it! We also decided to hit Washington DC while we were there since neither of us have been back in years. During the week we were on the east coast, the weather was fantastic, the fall leaves were in full bloom, and the drinks were as rich as the history! So, because of my love for Boston and the east coast (and my awesome trip) I put together a fun little travel guide for you all if you ever find yourself in those areas!
Boston
Accommodations:
The Westin, Copley Square: This is the hotel I always try to stay at when I hit Boston. It’s location is right in the middle of where you want to be. It’s close to the train stations, it’s central to Fenway and Beacon Hill, and the rooms are beautiful!
Commonwealth Hotel: This is a great hotel if you’re a Red Soxs fan. It’s super upscale, and it overlooks Fenway if you book the right room.
Sights:
Boston Public Library: This library is absolutely a must visit! Head in, check it out, and marvel in the beauty!
JFK Library: This is probably one of my favorite presidential libraries – especially if you’re a JFK fan! It’s a little outside of Boston but it’s directly on the water – definitely breath-taking!
Boston Public Garden and Commons: This is fun to walk through to see the beauty of the city!
Freedom Walk: If you want to see all the historic places – check this out! I always recommend doing this the first day so it gives you an idea of the layout of the city.
Charles River: For the active ones, take a run on this esplanade! It’s beautiful and surpassingly calming.
Food:
The Liberty Hotel: This hotel is an old prison – and the bars and restaurants in it reflect that! It’s a fun place that’s really popping on the weekend.
The North End: If you’re looking for amazing and authentic Italian food – go here. Trust me.
Bell in Hand: This is a historic bar in Boston. The bottom is really cool live music, the top is a club.
Washington DC
Sights:
Newseum: Let me tell you, this is by far one of my favorite museums I have been to. It might be because I have a masters degree in Journalism, or it might be because the museum speaks for itself, but it definitely takes you on an tour of all of the important events in Journalism.
State Capital: We booked a tour of the state capital and it was definitely cool to see the hustle and bustle of the senators and house of representatives. We were also able to go into the Senate and House chambers – which was pretty darn awesome.
Food:
Founding Farmers: If you are looking for amazing comfort food – this is the place for you. Their Chicken Pot Pie is to DIE for.
City Bar: If you are looking for a rooftop with a spectacular view, this is the place for you!
Old Ebbitt Grill: Drink and eat here. If you eat – get the mussels linguini dish, you don’t be disappointed.
*I wasn’t incredibly impressed with the hotel we stayed at so I don’t have accommodation recommendations, sorry!
