Ladies, I know I’m not alone here… Whenever a new (and good) man comes into your life, they wine and dine you until your jeans get snug and you have to wiggle them up your thighs. My girlfriends and I have had countless conversations about it – your weight is something that will simply change in a new relationship. But a recent health article is suggesting that, well, the opposite happens when you fall in love – instead of gaining weight, you lose it.
This seems weird, and definitely doesn’t happen to me, but researchers at Harvard Medical School say that the hormones released when falling in love also works to suppress the appetite. Now, so far this has only been tested on men (25 of them to be exact.) To mimic the feeling of being in love, the researchers gave half the men an oxytocin nose spray, and the other half a placebo. Oxytocin is the hormone responsible for pleasure and all fun feelings.
The study revealed that the men given the nose spray had a suppressed appetite, boosted metabolic levels, and insulin sensitivity while they ate. Now, I’m not convinced the same results will happen in females, but I’m curious to see where this study goes next. In the meantime, let’s fall in love.
